About Me

Dr. Ing. Sebastian Bodza

Technical Expert GenAI Platforms & Services • Stuttgart, Germany

Welcome to my blog! I'm an AI engineer / Data Scientist from Germany with a background combining mechanical engineering and artificial intelligence.

Work

I work as Technical Expert GenAI Platforms & Services at a German bank. I'm a developer on the GenAI team, building enterprise-grade GenAI applications that transform how employees interact with internal knowledge and processes. In addition, I serve as an consultant contributing expertise for GenAI initiatives.

Previously, I led the GenAI team at Qnovi, where I built production AI systems including: an internal chatbot with agentic RAG and hybrid search used by thousands of employees monthly, GenAI-powered automations for transcribing and analyzing support conversations, and automated email routing systems with confidence scoring.

My educational background is in mechanical engineering. I hold a PhD from the University of Stuttgart on "Supervised and Reinforcement Learning for the Development and Optimization of H₂-engines". During my doctorate, I discovered my passion for AI and decided to pivot to a career in the field.

Blog

On my blog I write about applied machine learning with a mix of technical deep-dives, practical insights, and lessons learned from production systems. It's my way of learning in public.

I share my experience with open-source models like LLaMA and Mistral, fine-tuning techniques, and the practical challenges of deploying AI in enterprise environments. I also occasionally give talks at conferences and meetups, like my recent presentation on TTS fine-tuning with PyTorch at Cloud Native Stuttgart.

Community & Knowledge Sharing

I'm passionate about sharing knowledge and contributing to the AI community. You can find my work and models on Hugging Face , including German fine-tuned models and instruction-tuned datasets.

Beyond my professional work, I was part of the Rennteam Uni Stuttgart Formula Student team, participating in competitions across Germany, Austria, Spain, Hungary and the USA with a self-developed race car, an experience that taught me the value of teamwork and engineering excellence.
